After Nicolas Lancret (French, 1690-1743), "Fete Galante - Children at Play in the Open," c. 1800,

oil on linen, unsigned, presented in a giltwood frame,
H.- 26 1/4 in., W.- 32 3/4 in., Framed- H.- 28 7/8 in., W.- 35 1/4 in.

  • Provenance: Property from the Estate of Murphy A. Bourke, New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Notes: The original painting by Lancret, now conserved in the National Gallery of Denmark, Copenhagen, was a popular painting copied numerous times in the late 18th/early 19th century. The majority of these works appear in the reverse and were thus likely copied from an engraving/etching. The piece offered here has only included the children with the flute and omitted the other two lady revelers on the other side of the young suitor.
  • Condition: Condition is not stated in the description of the item. The absence of a condition report does not mean that the item is free of damage or condition issues. Some items do show signs of age or wear. CCAG strongly suggests that you do not bid without requesting a condition report. Requests for condition reports will not be honored after 5 p.m. CST on the Tuesday prior to the auction.
