  • Provenance: Property from the Estate of Murphy A. Bourke, New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Notes: Henry Peat Buckley was born in Coventry, England, 1822. He learned watchmaking in England and immigrated to the United States about 1840. He was employed in New Orleans by the firm of Nelson A. Young, at 8 Camp Street. Nelson A. Young had been a partner of Edwin Whittemore in 1840, following the dissolution of Whittemore & Blair. After Young's death the business was managed by Young's widow until Buckley was taken in as a partner. About 1850, the firm title was changed to Young & Co., and eventually Buckley bought out the Young interest and operated the business under his own name. The firm of H. P. Buckley continued in the same location until Buckley's death in 1903.
