Two Gilt Metal Solar Lamps, early to mid 19th c.,

both with acid etched copper wheel cut shades, gilt brass fonts, one with a reverse tapered white marble column standard, the other with a gilt metal fluted Corinthian column standard, both on marble bases, not electrified,
Gilt Column- H.- 27 in., Dia.- 9 in.; Marble Column- H.- 31 1/2 in., Dia.- 8 1/2 in. (2 Pcs.)

  • Provenance: From the Collection of William Friedle and Norris Garrison, New York, NY / New Orleans, LA.
  • Condition: Accumulation of dust, dirt, and surface debris throughout, consistent with age. The marble bases on both lamps exhibit nicks, chips, and overall toning, staining, and discoloration. Both lamps exhibit general surface wear, including scratches, rubbing, and scattered marks consistent with age and use. The metal components show oxidation, patina, and several areas of verdigris, particularly on the base of one lamp. The column of the second lamp has extensive spotting and pitting throughout the gilt finish, this lamp is marked "Cornelius & Co. / Philad / Patent / April 1st, 1843." The glass shades are overall in very good condition. Both show minor surface scratches, along with dust and dirt accumulation, consistent with age. The taller shade has an uneven bottom rim with a few small nicks and imperfections. The globe shade has a minuscule textured detail along the smaller rim, which appears original and endemic to its design. Neither lamp has been drilled.
